RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A driver faces several charges, including DWI, after a crash left three people dead and three others injured early Sunday morning.
It happened around 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Highwoods Boulevard and Poplarwood Court.
According to a wreck report, a car went off the road and the driver over-corrected. The car then hit a light pole, a street sign, and a tree before flipping over. Two passengers were ejected.
There were seven people in the vehicle, including the driver, according to authorities. Not everyone was wearing a seat belt. Police said one person was sitting in the lap of someone in the backseat of the vehicle.
Nelson Darinel Velazquez of Dudley, Tomas Rivera Jr. of Newton Grove, and Pau Bautista of Benson were all killed in the crash, according to the wreck report.
Jaciel Espino-Montes, 22, of Goldsboro was charged with three counts of aggravated felony death by motor vehicle, three counts of aggravated serious injury by motor vehicle, and driving while impaired.
Police are still investigating the incident.
