Durham police investigate shooting at strip mall

DURHAM (WTVD) -- Police responded to a gun battle in the parking lot of a Durham strip mall in the 1400 block of Avondale Drive Friday evening.

When police arrived at the scene, the victim, 33-year-old Jacinto Barr, was found inside a barber shop with a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

Barr was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Eyewitnesses told officers they saw at least two suspects shooting at each other in the parking lot.

Five vehicles and three businesses were struck by bullets during the incident.

Police arrested one of the suspects, 33-year-old Freddy Cheek, after someone saw him run from the scene into a laundromat.

They say Cheek admitted to officers he had been involved in the gun battle.

The shooting remains under investigation.
