Emergency crews responded to the scene of a possible drowning in a quarry on the Eno River along the Durham-Orange County line just before 5 p.m.
Video from Chopper 11 showed divers in the water and a group of swimmers on the banks.
This is the same spot where a teenager drowned in 2007.
The Wake County school district said Burt recently graduated from Broughton High School.
