Explosions heard during FBI raid in Cary townhouse complex
CARY (WTVD) -- Some people were rocked out of bed Tuesday morning by loud explosions due to an FBI raid at their townhouse complex in Cary.
It happened early in the morning at a complex off Walnut Street. According to federal court documents, the suspect, Jermaine Johnson, was selling cocaine to a federal informant.
Residents say they could hear agents yelling 'FBI!' before they set off flashbangs to confuse the man inside. One neighbor said he is a rapper with a new recording about to be released. They said Johnson lived there for many years with his wife and four kids.
The federal criminal complaint alleges Johnson met twice with an FBI informant at a Waffle House across the street from the townhouse, once in December and once on Saturday. The FBI says he sold the informant an ounce of cocaine each time.
"It's very disturbing to hear that there's that kind of criminal activity going on and that the potential violence that can come with it," said neighbor Matthew Macik.
At least one neighbor has questioned why the FBI would conduct a raid like this over allegations of the sale of a relatively small amount of cocaine.
