DURHAM, North Carolina (WTVD) -- Multiple small fires caused three Westbound lanes on I-40 in Durham County to close for about two hours on Saturday.
Authorities say the fire started around 3:20 Saturday afternoon causing three of the five lanes near mile marker 282 to close.
Sixteen units from the Durham Fire Department, Durham County Fire and Rescue, Morrisville Fire Department, Durham Highway Fire Department, and North Carolina Forestry Service were on scene battling the fire which is contained; however, authorities say it will smolder for a while.
Fire crews estimate about two acres have burned.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
