RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Residents in one northwest Raleigh neighborhood are waking up to a fire that destroyed two homes.
The blaze broke out just before midnight on Golden Moss Trail, near Carpenter Pond Road.
By the time firefighters arrived at the scene, flames quickly engulfed one home and spread to another.
Everyone inside the homes made it out safely.
The division chief of the Raleigh Fire Department told ABC11 a woman's smoke detector went off and woke her up. She was able to get out and call for help.
The chief said the fire started in the garage and spread to the neighboring home. A car was also destroyed.
The gas meters for both homes had to be shut off.
"It could've been catastrophic," the chief said. "She could've slept right through it."
Fire officials are still determining the cause of the fire.
