SILER CITY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Troopers say Joshua Woods, a volunteer firefighter with the Siler City Fire Department, was killed in a wreck while responding to a call.

It happened around 1:10 a.m. Tuesday while he was traveling south on Silk Hope Road in a 2004 Honda Accord.

Troopers say he started to cross into the left lane before going off the road to the right. He continued into a yard and hit multiple trees, according to officials. There was massive damage to the driver-side door.

He was wearing a seatbelt and airbags deployed and no alcohol was involved, but it appears he was speeding, troopers say.
