OCEAN ISLE BEACH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A 13-year-old girl suffered lacerations on her foot after what she said was a shark attack at a North Carolina beach.
It happened Thursday afternoon on Ocean Isle Beach.
Eyewitnesses said they saw a shark between four and six-feet-long in knee deep water just before it bit the girl who was swimming with a boogie board.
They said the girl came out of the water and what happened next was shocking.
"She wobbled out and left the boogie board and it just went at the boogie board," said eyewitness Alexa Whittemore. "I felt like I needed to warn people, but it was surreal like it was definitely surreal and I was like, 'Oh my gosh I just hope she has her legs,' like I felt so bad for her cause she was so young."
A caller to 911 says the shark clamped down on the girl's foot and bit her board in half.
The mayor says the girl went to the hospital with a few cuts, but they're not severe.
