Inept thief thwarted in Raleigh
A wannabe thief tried to rob three businesses, but left empty-handed

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The Raleigh Police Department is seeking help finding a would-be robber.

The hapless suspect tried and failed to rob three Raleigh businesses on Tuesday about 6 p.m.

Police said he entered the Oreck Vacuum Store at 8321 Brier Creek Parkway, then the Subway restaurant at 7850 Alexander Promenade and finally the Plato's Closet store at 7920 Skyland Ridge Parkway.

"He kept insisting that he was going to shoot me if I didn't give him my money, and I kept insisting that I didn't have any money," said Karen Flueck-Holveg, the manager of Oreck Vacuums.

"And at one point I just said 'look, if you're going to shoot me then just show me your gun,' and he just got frustrated at that and kept saying 'just give me your money.'

"He was actually kind of polite, he called me ma'am," Holveg said. "But other than that, I mean he just he didn't seem mean or anything like that. He honestly just seemed like he was down on his luck, looking for a buck."

The manager at Plato's Closet said the wannabe thief took off without cash when a manager pressed a panic button.

After the third bungled attempt at criminal gain, the suspect was seen fleeing into a nearby wooded area.

He is described as between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall, with a medium build. He had blond or light-brown facial hair or stubble.
