Homeowner found dead in Wake County mobile home fire
Authorities in Wake County located the homeowner hours after a fire gutted his home in Apex.

WAKE COUNTY (WTVD) -- The Wake County Sheriff's Department confirms a body was found in a home that went up in flames early Monday morning.

The identity of the person has not been released, but the Fairview Fire Chief told ABC11 early Monday morning that a man and his dog were thought to have lived there.

According to the Sheriff's Department, deputies were dispatched to the mobile home on Newcomb Street, near Truelove Drive and Bells Lake Road, in Apex around 3:10 a.m. to assist the fire department.

Firefighters got the fire under control in 40 minutes. A firefighter was taken to the hospital due to heat-related injuries, but is expected to be okay.

Fairview Chief David Price said the home was gutted and debris from the roof fell, making it difficult to see the damage.

The man's body was later discovered inside the home. There is autopsy pending and he has not yet been identified, but neighbors told ABC11 that the man was James Walters.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
