DURHAM (WTVD) -- Firefighters battled a massive house fire in east Durham Tuesday morning.
It happened around 11 a.m. in the 200 block of Kindlewood Drive, right at The Crossings golf course off N.C. Highway 98.
Officials say the fire may have started with a car in the garage, or near the garage.
One person in the home got out safely, but a cat died in the fire.
Firefighters got the flames knocked down quickly, but there was heavy heat and smoke damage throughout the entire house.
The cause of the fire was ruled accidental. Fire officials said it possibly caused by improperly discarded smoking materials.
