Large woods fire burning in the southeast Durham area

DURHAM, North Carolina (WTVD) -- Durham County firefighters battled a large woods fire in the area of 700 Foxridge Crescent along Highway 70 in the southeast Durham area Monday afternoon.

Pictures from Chopper 11 showed some small abandoned buildings were destroyed, but a nearby apartment complex was not threatened.

Some 70 firefighters from Durham County Fire-Rescue, City of Durham Fire, Redwood VFD, and the Durham Highway Fire Department responded to the large blaze.

The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.
