MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WTVD) -- An Orange County mother is facing murder charges after her 6-week-old boy drowned late Saturday night in a pond near a mall in Myrtle Beach.

Authorities in Horry County said the incident started when witnesses spotted Jameisha Ka'Tara Alexander of Carrboro near the pond behind the Tanger outlets on Highway 501 holding the infant.

According to warrants, Security guards were called to the area and when they arrived, they saw the child in the pond, but did not see his mother. Officials said emergency crews tried to revive the infant, but were unable to.

Jameisha Alexander was found about two hours later when she wrecked her vehicle, the warrants stated. Officials said she made no effort to contact authorities or anyone else for help.

Horry County police arrested Jameisha Alexander and charged her with murder in connection with the incident.

An autopsy ruled 6-week-old King Khalil Jair Alexander's cause of death as drowning.
