New details have emerged about a woman who drove her car into Jordan Lake.

JORDAN LAKE (WTVD) -- The investigation into claims a Wake County mother drove her car into Jordan Lake with her 6-year-old son on her lap continues to develop.

A new report reveals what officials say happened when the woman and her son were rescued from the lake and taken to the hospital.

What happened May 14 on Jordan Lake is something regulars thought unimaginable.

"I would never imagine something like that happening here at such a peaceful place," said one lake-goer.

Just yards away from the Seaforth boat ramp, where the Wake County mom reportedly took off speeding into the water with her 6-year-old son on her lap, eyewitnesses found a suicide note.

The note read, "I know who I am now. I know what they plan to do with my son. I cannot let that happen. This is the best I can do for my son. I will always love him."

The Parks and Recreation report includes the eyewitness accounts of the good Samaritans who used their pontoon boat to break the glass on the woman's car in a rescue attempt.

One eyewitness described trying to reach through the sinking car's open sunroof, only to have the woman close the roof on his arm. The eyewitnesses, who wished to remain anonymous, recalled seeing the little boy's arm stick out of the broken back window. That's when he pulled the boy to safety.

The eyewitnesses said when a man jumped in the lake to save the woman, she tried to fight off her rescuer. She was "talking crazy," and "seemed to want to go under," eyewitnesses told authorities.

The mother and her son were safely on shore when investigators arrived. According to the report, when they searched her car they found her medical records from a mental health clinic in London, England.

"They risked their lives to save that woman's life, so that's amazing," a bystander said.
