ANGIER, NC (WTVD) -- The Wake County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a man was wounded Sunday afternoon at a home on Cow Trail in Middle Creek, just north of Angier.
"I was shocked, you don't expect this kind of thing to happen in this area," said Monica Luna, who lives in that neighborhood.
She never expected to look outside of her front door on a Sunday afternoon to see crime scene tape, deputies and even the Wake County sheriff at her neighbor's house.
Sheriff Donnie Harrison said 20-year-old David Padron was disassembling a gun and didn't realize it was loaded before it went off. The bullet hit his brother, 22-year-old Jesus Padron.
"He was just taking the bullets out of his weapon because there were kids in the house and he wanted to make sure it was empty," said Sheriff Harrison.
All of this happened just after noon.
At last check, Jesus Padron was responsive before being take to WakeMed for surgery.
The sheriff said they are investigating but at this time believe it was an accidental shooting. No one was arrested.
