RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The Raleigh Police Department has charged a Lee County Sheriff's Office detention employee with sexually assaulting a female prisoner while bringing her to Raleigh.
The alleged incident happened September 15 within the Raleigh city limits.
The woman reported the assault to authorities in Raleigh after she arrived.
Both the Raleigh Police Department and the Lee County Sheriff's Office investigated.
David Adams Jr. 55, is charged with one count of second-degree sex offense and one count of a sex offense in violation of a state statute - which applies to offenses committed by a person having custody of a victim.
Adams was arrested in Sanford on Saturday and taken to the Wake County Detention Center.
