Durham police investigate 5 shootings across the city
DURHAM (WTVD) -- Durham police are investigating five separate shootings that happened over the Thanksgiving weekend.
The most recent one happened Sunday evening on Seven Oaks Road off North Roxboro Street.
Authorities said just after 5:30 p.m., a 15-year-old, who was reportedly in a car, heard multiple gunshots and took off running. At some point, officials said he was grazed by a bullet in his hip area. The unidentified teen was later treated and released from the hospital.
The other shootings happened Friday night.
The first was reported around 4:15 p.m. in the area of Wabash Street at Lawson Street. Shandrea Bond, 19, was shot but drove herself to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Later, a second shooting was reported at 9 p.m. at the Oakley Square Apartments at Cheek Road and Hardee Street. Justin Anthony Parker, 26, was shot and taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
A third shooting was reported after 10 p.m. at Alston Street and Juniper Street. Benjamin Russell Armstrong, 24, was also taken to the hospital. His injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
Just before 11 p.m., a fourth shooting was reported in the area of Wedgedale Street and Walton Avenue. Rashad Rogers, 32, was shot but suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The barrage of bullets startled neighbors and left a mess behind.
"[I] heard the gunshots down the street first then they started shooting up here," said eyewitness Fred Cobb, whose car was damaged. "It makes me upset to see my vehicle but I can't do nothing."
"I hate to see any neighborhood being in trouble like this," added eyewitness Joshua Holmes. "I got young grandkids that is coming up in here. They can't even play up in the yard because I'm scared they might get shot. And this is what we don't need."
Authorities were back at the scene Saturday investigating.
According to a police report, the damage is going to cost home and car owners hundreds of dollars.
In at least three of the incidents, the victims told police the gunfire came from a vehicle.
No arrests have been made at this time.
Investigators are trying to determine if any of the cases are related.
