Fayetteville police officer hit during traffic stop

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Authorities in Fayetteville are looking for the driver who hit a police officer after he stopped someone for speeding Monday night.

Around 10:30 p.m., Officer Andrew Dickinson stopped a vehicle for speeding on Bragg Boulevard near the Greenland Drive intersection.

While Dickinson was standing at the vehicle's driver's side door, another car driving in the opposite direction towards Fort Bragg, struck the stopped vehicle's door and the officer.

The driver did not stop and fled the scene.

Dickinson was not seriously injured and was treated at the hospital. The driver of the initial traffic stop was not injured.

Authorities are currently looking for a dark colored four-door sedan that is missing a driver's side mirror due to the collision.

Dickinson has been with the Fayetteville Police Department since March 2012.
