Son pleads for mother's shooter to turn themselves in
DURHAM (WTVD) -- The Durham County Sheriff's Office is searching for clues as to why a gunman drove by and fired shots at a home, injuring a 72-year-old woman inside.
It happened Friday night on Forrester Drive around 10:15 p.m. and the victim, Dorothy Holloway, was hit in the legs. Two other people were inside the home but were not harmed.
Neighbor Barret Liles says the bullets sounded like fireworks. "Pow, pow, pow. It kept going over and over again."
Authorities say the initial investigation shows that the shooting was targeted, not random. Over the weekend Holloway's son, Antonio, says doctors had to amputate his mother's left leg.
His mother had just learned to walk again, after being disabled for three years following a coma, according to Antonio.
He says he doesn't know who would want to shoot at his mother's home.
"Every time I see her. She just cries and is like 'Son why did they shoot me?' I don't know," he says.
He's pleading for the shooter to come forward. "We have a lot of folks praying that you turn yourself in. My mom is real strong and she would like for you to turn yourself in."
