SPRING LAKE, N.C. (WTVD) -- A 79-year-old man who admitted to shooting and killing his wife and daughter Thursday morning is now charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
Police officers found Bobby King's 84-year-old wife, Dorothy King, and 55-year-old daughter, Cynthia King, shot inside the family's Dianne Circle home, off the Lillington Highway, around 8:50 a.m.
Spring Lake Police Chief Troy McDuffie told ABC11 that the weapon appeared to be a 9mm handgun, and that one of the victims was apparently shot several times.
The women were pronounced dead at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
The chief did not say why King shot his wife and daughter, but said officers had previously been called to the family's home for domestic and/or dementia-related issues.
Detectives said King made the initial call to 911 identifying himself as the person responsible for shooting the victims. King also made several voluntarily spontaneous statements admitting that he shot the victims, police said.
Neighbors say King is a veteran.
King was transported to the Cumberland County Detention Center where he is being held without bond. His next court appearance is Friday.
