Teacher killed by day care bus in Goldsboro

GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WTVD) -- A teacher died after an accident at Meadow Lane Elementary in Goldsboro Tuesday morning.

Just after 8 a.m., police said 25-year-old Brandon Kincaid was hit by a private bus from the Small World day care center in the school parking lot on E. Ash Street.

Kincaid was rushed to Wayne Memorial Hospital where he later died.

The investigation into how it happened is ongoing.

Kincaid was a second grade teacher and used a wheelchair. He was also a youth pastor at his father's church, Neuse Baptist Church in Kinston. His wife Sara is expecting their first child, a baby boy named Benjamin.

Kincaid's father, the Rev. Greg Kincaid, told ABC11 "If anyone wants to see Brandon again, they need to turn their life over to Jesus so that one day they will be able to meet with him in Heaven."

Wayne County Superintendent Dr. Michael Dunsmore told ABC11 that Kincaid was in his second year of teaching and had a tremendous impact on his students. He taught second grade with 21 students in his class.

"I think this was his life's passion and it is just breaking my heart," said Dunsmore.

He said he's seen tragic events throughout his time in education, but helping such young students understand the death of a teacher presents a unique challenge.

"It is a very, very sad situation," he said. "It's difficult, but we get our people out there and listen and do the best we can to support them and get them through this."

School officials said the accident may have been witnessed by some students. An emergency response team of counselors and psychologists has been brought in for anyone that needs them for as long as they are needed.
