Authorities said a car driven by Christy Massengill was struck while on the tracks at the Baker Street crossing in Four Oaks.

Eyewitnesses told police the stop arms were down and Massengill was driving around them when she was hit.

Massengill and a passenger survived.

Authorities said they are waiting to watch surveillance footage before determining what, if any, charges may be filed.

Earlier in April, a man and a woman were killed after they were hit by an Amtrak train in Durham on April 5 and in March an Amtrak train collided with a tractor-trailer truck on the tracks at N.C. Highway 903 and U.S. Highway 301 in Halifax leaving 55 passengers injured.
