FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Police are investigating after a man was shot in the parking lot of a Fayetteville Walmart.

According to police, the incident happened before 3 Wednesday afternoon at the Walmart in the 1500 block of Skibo Road.

Investigators said 37-year-old Justin Matthews was in the parking lot of the business when an unknown suspect approached and shot him.

The suspect then took the victim's 2007 Ford "King Ranch" truck and fled the scene.

Reports state that the victim tried to run to safety but collapsed in the front entrance of the store.

Matthews was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and is listed in serious condition.

The investigation revealed that shooting was linked to a drug deal. Police said this was not a random incident.

The stolen vehicle was located Thursday afternoon in the 3700 block of Bragg Boulevard; however, it was unoccupied.

Authorities believe this car is similar to the one stolen
