HB2 protest takes on a sporty theme
Protesters against HB2 took on a sporty theme to mock the governor after the NBA pulled the All-Star Game from NC.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The very loud and weekly protest outside the Executive Mansion on Blount Street in downtown Raleigh took on a sports theme in its 16th week.

As usual, the protesters blew horns and whistles in their efforts to fight HB2, this time dressed in their best NBA gear.

The NBA-themed version of the Air Horn Orchestra comes days after the NBA decided not to have Charlotte host its 2017 All-Star game.

"We're blowing the whistle after Gov. McCrory's big air ball. His decision to sign HB2 cost our state the big game and cost our economy over $100 million," said Grayson Haver Currin, co-conductor of the Air Horn Orchestra. "And we're calling foul on the governor's joke about HB2 at a Donald Trump rally this week. Is state sponsored discrimination funny now?"

GOP leaders in North Carolina fired back at the protest.

A spokeswoman for North Carolina Senate Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) issued a statement:

"North Carolina didn't have a bathroom problem and didn't need HB2 until Mayor Jennifer Roberts and Attorney General Roy Cooper decided to force women and little girls to share bathrooms and shower facilities with grown men to help raise cash from the far-left for their political campaigns."

North Carolina House Speaker Tim Moore (R-Cleveland) also shared this statement in response to the weekly HB2 protest:

"Recently leaked emails further prove that this bathroom issue was invented by the far left in an attempt to raise money for political campaigns and Mayor Roberts ultimately responsible for falling for the ploy and its aftermath."

Republican leaders and recently, McCrory, are turning the tables and accusing Mayor Roberts of Charlotte, Attorney General Roy Cooper, and Democrats nationally, of creating what they call a bathroom issue, for political gain.

They cite the leaked emails out of the Democratic National Convention as proof.

Those leaked emails are now listed on WikiLeaks.

On Monday, a campaign spokesperson for Roy Cooper, called the accusations a desperate attempt from the governor to distract from "the damage he's done to our economy with HB2.
