Protesters renew call to close Guantanamo
Members of NC Stop Torture Now rallied Friday near downtown Raleigh.

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Protesters renewed their call on President Barack Obama to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility.

Human right supporters from NC Stop Torture Now rallied at the Terry Sanford Federal Building near downtown Raleigh on Friday.

Beth Brockman of NC Stop Torture Now said the president has the power to close the prison and needs to use his authority, or the promise he made one year ago to close the facility is meaningless.

The protest was part of a Global Day of Action to Close Guantnamo and End Indefinite Detention, in which 35 human rights organizations have joined to hold rallies in more than 40 cities worldwide.
