RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Governor Pat McCrory watched Monday as Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison took the oath of office.

North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Mark Martin administered the oath to the sheriff at the Kerr Scott Building on the North Carolina fairgrounds.

Sheriff Harrison, a Republican, said he loves his job and it's been an honor to serve the people of Wake County.

"I love what I do, and I love serving people, I love helping people and I love protecting people. That's just my life and as long as I can be as proactive as I can to protect them and make this the safest county in this state and the country, I'm going to continue working hard," Harrison said.

Sheriff Harrison is beginning his fourth consecutive term.
