Canes acquire G Eddie Lack, D James Wisniewski via trades

The Vancouver Canucks traded goalie Eddie Lack to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.The Canucks receive a third-round pick in 2015 and a seventh-round pick in 2016.

In a statement, Carolina executive vice president and general manager Ron Francis called Lack "a big-bodied goalie who has proven himself on the NHL level in the past two seasons."

The third-round pick Carolina sent to Vancouver is No. 66 overall, which the Canucks used to select defensemanGuillaume Brisebois.

The Canucks had been listening to offers for both Lack and Jacob Markstrom, having decided to keep veteran Ryan Miller.

The 27-year-old Lack went 18-13-4 with a 2.45 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage last season, his second full NHL season with the Canucks. He took over the starting job in February due to Miller'sknee injury, though Miller eventually reclaimed the job during the playoffs.

The Canes also acquired defensemanJames Wisniewski from the Anaheim Ducks for goalieAnton Khudobin, who became expendable with the addition of Lack.

The Ducks clear major salary-cap space by getting Wisniewski's $5.5 million cap hit off the books. Wisniewski went to Anaheim at the trade deadline but did not play at all during the postseason.
