Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant has a mild ankle sprain and is not expected to go on the DL, the team announced Friday.
An MRI confirmed that Bryant avoided a serious injury when he rolled his ankle while rounding the bases in Thursday's 7-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.
Bryant was not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Atlanta Braves, and the reigning NL Rookie of the Year may be sidelined for a few days.
He is hitting .289 with a .372 on-base percentage, four home runs and 15 RBIs this season.
Javier Baez will start at third base Friday afternoon in the series opener at Wrigley Field.
