Duke's football stadium will be known as Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium after a $13 million gift to the athletic department.

School president Richard H. Brodhead announced Friday that alumnus Steve Brooks and his wife, Eileen, had made the donation, with the board of trustees approving the recommendation of the new field name.

"Steve and Eileen Brooks have been tremendously generous, as well as incredibly faithful, relative to supporting Duke University for many years and, specifically in the case of Duke Football, no one has been more committed to helping us build a championship program," Duke athletic director Kevin White said in a statement.

Steve Brooks is the president and CEO of the Phoenix American Insurance Group Inc. One of his sons, Matt, is a former Blue Devils football player. The family has two other campus facilities named for them: the Brooks Practice Facility and the Brooks Football Building.

The football stadium is currently under renovation but is expected to be ready for Duke's home opener, Sept. 12 against North Carolina Central.
