Duke's Marvin Bagley III misses most of game versus MSU after eye injury

CHICAGO -- Duke's highly touted freshman forwardMarvin Bagley III left Tuesday night's 88-81 win against Michigan State midway through the first half and did not return after being poked in the right eye by teammate Javin DeLaurier.

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said Bagley had a "scratched eye" and the team didn't want to bring him back out in the second half because of it.

"His eye was starting to shut. At first, he had a hard time seeing out of the eye (but now) he can see out of it," Krzyzewski said.

Krzyzewski said there would be an update on Bagley's condition Wednesday. Duke's next game is Friday night vs.Southern.

"I think he will [play]," Krzyzewski said when asked about Bagley's status for Friday.

The 6-foot-11, 235-pound Bagley, who headed into the game averaging 24.5 points and 10 rebounds in his first two collegiate games, left for the locker room after scoring four points and grabbing six rebounds in 10 minutes. Duke was leading 19-12 when Bagley exited.

Bagley was not available for comment after the win.

Bagley is considered by NBA executives as one of the players in the mix for the No. 1 overall pick in June's NBA draft.
