MIAMI -- Reigning National League Cy Young winner Jake Arrieta will have to visit a tattoo artist when the Cubs return to Chicago from their road trip after losing a bet to teammate Tommy La Stellaover the College World Series.
Coastal Carolina eliminated TCU from the tournament Saturday, beating the Horned Frogs on back-to-back days. La Stella is a Coastal Carolina alumnus; Arrieta attended TCU. The two wins propelled the Chanticleers to the CWS finals.
"So happy for those kids," La Stella said Sunday morning. "When we get back to Chicago we'll get him [Arrieta] tatted up for life."
The loser of the bet had to get a tattoo of the winner's school, so Arrieta will have CCU emblazoned on him.
La Stella was asked if they will record the tattooing.
"If it's a body part that's visually acceptable, absolutely," La Stella said laughing.
When Arrieta arrived at the ballpark Sunday, there was a Coastal Carolina placard taped to his locker stall. He quickly removed it.
Though TCU was eliminated by Coastal Carolina, the Horned Frogs beat the Chanticleers once earlier in the week. The two had a bet on that game as well, and La Stella will have to dress up as a Horned Frogs mascot, Arrieta said.
Coastal Carolina will take on Arizona in the best-of-three finals beginning Monday night. La Stella will begin a Triple-A rehab assignment Monday with Iowa in his recovery from a right hamstring injury.
"I'll be checking in as often as I can," La Stella said.
