Jason Pierre-Paul posts workout video, says 'don't believe the hype'

New York Giants defensive endJason Pierre-Paul, trying to put to rest increased pessimism about whether he can play or not, posted a workout video Wednesday of himself on Instagram saying "don't believe the hype."

Pierre-Paul, who had his entire index finger amputated and is missing part of his thumb after a July 4 fireworks accident, hada repair procedure performed on his right middle finger last week.

A source told ESPN on Wednesday that the Giants, who examined the hand last week, don't plan on seeing Pierre-Paul for another five or six weeks and that if the hand isn't healed to their satisfaction by then, they will consider rescinding his $14.81 million franchise tender.

Pierre-Paul remains convinced that he will play again this year, posting a 14-second video in which he is seen bursting out of his stance, pulling weights behind him on a sled.

"God can turn any situation around for the better," Pierre-Paul's post says. "Your hard times will lead to the best times of your life. Don't believe the hype ... Be back soon! #90PC #ImAFighter #PutMeInCoach."

The video does not show a clear image of the bandaged right hand.

One source told ESPN that the procedure done Sept. 4 to "close up" his middle finger was still fresh when he met with team doctors on Sept. 7.

So while the condition of the middle finger alarmed some with the Giants, Pierre-Paul said he believes it will heal to an extent that will ultimately allow him to play, according to the source.
