WICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita police have dropped a drug charge againstDallas Cowboysrunning back Joseph Randle.

Police spokesman Lt. James Espinoza said the suspicion of marijuana possession charge was dropped Friday because there were some inconsistencies.

Espinoza said dropping the charge allows them to present any charges that result from the ongoing investigation to prosecutors at one time.

The 23-year-old was arrested but not taken into custody early Tuesday after the mother of his child called 911 to report that she fought with him in a hotel room.

According to Wichita police, officers showed up at a hotel after receiving a call for domestic violence with a weapon. They found Randle and a 22-year-old woman at the hotel and observed marijuana in the room, which was rented to Randle.

Randle's agent and the Cowboys both had no comment Friday.

Last October, Randle was arrested for shoplifting at a Frisco, Texas, mall for attempting to steal Polo underwear and a tester bottle of Gucci Guilty Black cologne. Randle made matters worse with inappropriate comments in the jailhouse toward a female employee as well as disparaging comments about previous arrests of teammatesDez Bryant and Josh Brent.

The Cowboys fined Randle an undisclosed amount, and he apologized.

With DeMarco Murray set to become an unrestricted free agent, Randle, who has two years remaining on his four-year, $2.3 million rookie contract, is in position to see his playing time increase should Murray not re-sign.

Randle, a fifth-round draft pick in 2013, carried the ball 51 times for 343 yards and had three touchdowns last season.
