- Texas Tech Athletics (@TechAthletics) August 29, 2014Kingsbury became the Red Raiders' coach in December 2012 on a five-year deal that ran through '17.
"This is where I want to be and I couldn't be happier," Kingsbury said in a statement issued by the school. "I can't wait to take this thing to the next level."
Kingsbury, who was a record-setting quarterback for Texas Tech before a five-year career in the NFL, led the Red Raiders to a 7-5 record and a bowl win in his first season.
"There has never been a more exciting time within our football program than now," athletic director Kirby Hocutt said. "I am very proud of the program Coach Kingsbury is building and I know our fans are as well. We can't wait to kick off the season tomorrow night at Jones AT&T Stadium and are looking forward to a bright future."
The announcement of Kingsbury's extension also comes with what Texas Tech calls its first specific athletics capital campaign.
The campaign will include construction of a new indoor football practice facility, a new south end zone stadium building and renovation of the Red Raiders' football training facility.
Texas Tech also extended the contracts of baseball coach Tim Tadlock, track coach Wes Kittley and men's tennis coach Tim Siegel.
