Duke starting defensive end Marquies Price and reserve lineman Brandon Boyce were dismissed from the team after failing to meet program standards, coach David Cutcliffe said in a statement Tuesday.
Price started 11 games last season and was one of the team's top returning linemen. In 21 career games, he had 34 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and six quarterback pressures. Boyce played in eight games as a backup a year ago and had two career sacks.
Duke has been working toward building depth along its defensive line over the past several seasons, and Cutcliffe said he wanted to work on improving physicality during spring practice. The Blue Devils do have eight lettermen returning and just signed ESPN 300 prospect Drew Jordan, along with four other defensive linemen.
