Safety Roman Harper signed a contract with the New Orleans Saints, reuniting the safety and the team with which he earned his two Pro Bowl selections and won a Super Bowl title.
The announcement was made Tuesday by SportsTrust Advisors, which represents Harper, and later confirmed by the Saints.
Harper was already with the team for Tuesday's organized team activities session. Running backTim Hightowertweeted a picture of himself with Harper in the locker room.
Linebacker Dominique Tovell was waived by the Saints on Tuesday to clear a roster spot for Harper.
Harper, a 10-year veteran, spent the past two seasons with the Carolina Panthers.
Harper, 33, started all 32 regular-season games for Carolina the past two seasons after signing a two-year, $4.5 million deal with a $1.5 million signing bonus in 2014. He had a career-best four interceptions in 2014 but none this past season.
Before joining the Panthers, Harper spent his first eight seasons with the Saints, who selected him in the second round of the 2006 draft out of Alabama.
He started in the secondary for the Saints in their 31-17 Super Bowl XLIV victory over the Indianapolis Colts and made the Pro Bowl in 2009 and 2010.
Harper had 17 sacks with the Saints, which led all defensive backs during that span, and 14 forced fumbles, which ranked seventh among defensive backs.
In his return to the team, he will be reunited with Saints defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, who was his position coach in New Orleans when the Saints won the Super Bowl.
