EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State's considerablelinebacker depth will be tested againstIndianathis weekend.
Starting outside linebacker Jon Reschke will miss a "significant time period" due to a severe ankle sprain, coach Mark Dantonio said Tuesday. Middle linebacker Riley Bullough, who missed last week's loss to Wisconsin, is day-to-day while working through an undisclosed injury.
"We'll see how it shakes out," Dantonio said.
Dantonio said he was "optimistic" that Reschke, who also missed the season opener against Furman with a different injury, would be able to return before the end of the season. He had eight tackles and an interception in his only complete game of the year against Notre Dame.
The two starters have combined for 25 tackles in two games this season. In 2015, Bullough led the team with 106 tackles.
Bullough is expected to return to the field soon. Dantonio said the defensive cog was battling an injury that was aggravated during the second game of the season against the Irish.
Redshirt junior Shane Jones is listed as Bullough's replacement on the depth chart for Saturday's game. Sophomore Andrew Dowell will replace Reschke in the starting lineup.
Sixth-year senior Ed Davis, who is working his way back after tearing his ACL last August, is expected to take on some of the workload that would otherwise have fallen on the shoulders of Bullough and Reschke.
