The Nationals have placed pitcher Stephen Strasburg on the 15-day DL with right elbow soreness.
Washington has recalled pitcher A.J. Cole from Triple-A Syracuse. Cole will replace Strasburg as the Nationals' starting pitcher Monday against the Orioles.
Strasburg, 28, is 15-4 with a 3.59 ERA in 23 starts this season, and is an All-Star. His second stint on the DL this season is retroactive to Aug. 21.
He missed 17 games with an upper back strain, from June 16-July 3.
Cole, 24, is 8-8 with a 4.26 ERA in 22 starts for Syracuse this season.
