Bus fire closes part of Interstate 95

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Authorities in Johnston County had to close part of southbound I-95 near Smithfield Friday morning after a charter bus caught on fire.

It happened around 6 a.m. near exit 87 for Four Oaks after the white charter bus' engine appeared to have caught on fire.

Images from Chopper11 HD showed black burn marks on the side of the vehicle.

Several passengers were seen standing along the shoulder of the highway, but it was unclear if anyone was injured.

Traffic had to be detoured in the area after officials closed the roadway to clear the scene.
