RALEIGH (WTVD) -- People across the Triangle shivered in the stands Friday night as they came out to cheer on their team for high school football playoffs games. The mercury dipped down to the mid-30s as the arctic blast of weather arrived.
Athletes and spectators were testing their endurance at the Millbrook-Jack Britt playoff game.
"It is really cold, like freezing," said student Briana Lawrence.
"When it started snowing this morning, I was like 'Are you kidding me? We have to go out and play football in this,'" said parent Emily Colon.
Fans were piling on clothing in an effort to stay somewhat warm.
"I have five shirts on. I have three leggings on, plus these pants and I have three pairs of socks," said student Levida Lee.
The band and cheerleaders were working overtime to get the crowd moving, but folks were seen shivering in the stands. Volunteers working the concession booth were busy throughout the night mixing, stirring, and serving up hot chocolate.
"I got my hot chocolate. Got my blankets. Got my hand warmers. I'm good," said Bridgett Williams.
Volunteers told ABC11 attendance for he Millbrook-Jack Britt playoff was lower than expected. They believe the cold weather did turn people away from the game.
