NC Missions Of Mercy holds first Wake Co. clinic since 2012

FUQUAY-VARINA, NC (WTVD) -- NC Missions of Mercy (NC MOM) will hold a free adult dental clinic in Wake County Friday, July 29th and Saturday, July 30 from 7am-5pm at the Old Stephens Hardware Building-405 E. Broad Street.

Services are first come, first served. Patients will receive one service including: teeth cleaning, fillings, and extractions. The free clinic is the NC MOM's first in Wake County since 2012.

"We recommend you get there as early as possible," said Hannah Smith, NC Mom's Clinical Operations Manager.

"For this clinic, we're setting up 60 chairs," Smith said. "So, we'll have 60 chairs worth of cleanings, fillings, and extractions going on at one time.

We expect a line to probably start Thur morning," she said.

Smith says the need for dental services is great in North Carolina.

"Of 100 counties in NC, 97 of them are under-served in dentistry which is why we exist," she said.

Due to the heat, NC MOM will hand out wristbands on Thursday, July 28th beginning at 2PM and again Friday, July 29th on or about 4:00PM.

"We anticipate having hundreds of people in line," explained Jon Hansel, a volunteer community organizer for the Fuquay Varina clinic.

"What that allows patients to do is go back home or find a cool place overnight, They need to report back to the cinic at 5AM on Friday or Saturday and get back in line with the corresponding number for their wristband," he said.

Hundreds of volunteers will work the clinic and they will see as many patients as time permits. Patients should bring any required medicines, water, etc. to stay comfortable during the wait in line.
