Donation in Teghan Skiba's name
Books will help youngsters learn to read.

WAKE FOREST, N.C. (WTVD) -- A woman made a special donation Tuesday in the memory of a 4-year-old girl whose horrific death touched many lives.

In July 2010, Teghan Skiba was sexually assaulted and tortured to death by her mother's boyfriend, then-21-year-old Jonathan Richardson. This past April, a Johnston County jury sentenced Richardson to death.

On Tuesday, a grandmother who was touched by the tragedy donated pre-school books to St. Catherine's of Siena Church in Wake Forest in memory of the little girl.

"The Dailey family would like to present 125 Sight Word readers with the teaching guides to your school ... on behalf of a little girl who loved the color purple, butterflies, ladybugs and her grandmother's garden -- her name was Teghan Skiba," Vickie Dailey said.

Dailey, who has grandchildren around Skiba's age, said she was deeply affected by the girl's story after watching Richardson's trial for weeks from her home near Richmond, Virginia.

"I just want to do this for Teghan, because we have got to get the word out about these children, who don't have a voice for themselves," she said.

Also in attendance at the dedication Tuesday, was Skiba's own grandmother.

"This is very nice for [Dailey] and her family to do for us, and for Teghan," Sarah Skiba said. "We can't bring her back or anything, but her memory will live on."

Each donated book has a sticker inside that reads "in loving memory of Teghan Skiba."
