SAS officials dedicate newest building on sprawling Cary campus

CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- One of Cary's largest employers got a bit bigger Tuesday.

SAS officials dedicated their newest building on their sprawling campus during a morning ceremony. Building Q is a 220,000 square feet of energy efficient, LEED certified space.

It's also a big deal for job growth, according to company and local government leaders.

First came construction jobs, then opportunities for North Carolina based artists to have their work on view inside and on the SAS campus.

The new building also provides future employment opportunities in the company's expanding role as a provider of protection against corporate fraud and other security assistance, by freeing up space in other SAS buildings.

"Probably another 600 people in the next three years," SAS CEO Jim Goodnight said. "We now have the space to house those people. We're seeing a lot of people moving in the direction of using cloud computing."

Gov. Pat McCrory says those contracts for service by SAS includes the Departments of Health And Human Services, Public Safety and Transportation.

"We're fortunate to have several contracts with their software," he said. "Outsourcing is a much more efficient way, but we have to make sure our contracts are underbid and we go through the process to measure the results, and we're doing just that."

Meanwhile, many people want to work at SAS, which is known for its corporate perks.

"We want a lot of PhDs in operations research," Goodnight said. "So all those who are sitting around out there, please call us!"
