BROOKLYN, New York -- Police in New York City have charged a 23-year-old man with DWI after they say he jumped a curb in his car and slammed into several pedestrians early Monday morning.

The accident happened just after 5 a.m. Monday in Brooklyn.

The entire incident was captured on surveillance video.

At least 20 people were standing on the sidewalk when the car jumped the corner, began striking people in the crowd, lost a wheel and then sped away.

Six people were injured. Four of them were hit by the car and taken to the hospital. None of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

One of the victims wept as she described what happened.

"It's surreal because I could be... It could have been worse. My leg could have been broken. Anything could have happened all for stupidness," Ashana Brodie said. " Watching the video to see myself and to see what happened - it's surreal."

"I happened to turn and look because we heard the sound of something crashing. He had to be coming down at least 50 miles per hour, maybe more," said Latoya Robinson.

Police tracked down the 23-year-old driver a few blocks away and arrested him.

Witnesses say before the incident, the man had gotten into some sort of dispute up the block with some other guys who told him to leave. Minutes later, he came crashing down the sidewalk in his car.
