Dozens of Triangle families are not giving up their fight to keep a Wake County charter school open.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Families took part in a protest in front of the State Board of Education building on Thursday in support of the only charter school in North Carolina focused exclusively on students with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

The board voted earlier this year to start the process to close Dynamic Community Charter School because of financial problems, concerns about the curriculum, and teaching licenses.

The school has appealed and leaders say they've raised at least $150,000 since then.

About 70 students attend the school which serves middle and high school students. Parents at Thursday's protest told ABC11 the school is back on track.

Some students said they've tried different types of schools - but nothing could replace Dynamic if it shuts down.

"I'm so much happier. I had no friends at all and any friends I made friend were lost almost instantly. Now? Look at all my friends here. I am happy to go to school every day," offered Bailey Gladden.

The school is set to close at the end of the year unless they can win their appeal.
