CHAPEL HILL, NC (WTVD) -- A tentative agenda released Tuesday for a UNC Board of Governors meeting on Friday shows it plans to elect a new UNC system president and will hear remarks from the president-elect afterwards.
The University of North Carolina's governing board just met Friday to discuss the search for the next president of the 17-campus system.
The board is looking for a replacement for President Tom Ross, who is being pushed out of the job early next year by university governing board members who said they wanted a change.
The leading candidate appears to be Margaret Spellings, who served as Secretary of Education under President George Bush. She was seen at Friday's meeting.
But Spellings is not the only finalist for the job. That's according to members of the UNC Board of Governors who have spoken with ABC 11 but want to remain anonymous.
