Enloe High School releases early after unfounded threat
Enloe Magnet High School was under Code Red lockdown after a student reported seeing someone with a gun.

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Enloe Magnet High School spent more than an hour ona Code Red lockdown Friday.

The school said it received a report of a person with a firearm on the football field. Raleigh Police Department said that the report came from a student who told the principal around 10:16 a.m. The school then went into lockdown mode and the School Resource Office (SRO) requested additional officers to respond to the school.

Raleigh police said the officers conducted a complete and thorough search inside and outside the school and they didn't find any evidence of a firearm on campus.

"The threat is unfounded. There's no threat. There's no firearm. There's no one injured at Enloe High School," said Deputy Chief Rico Boyce.

The lockdown was officially lifted at 11:45 a.m. The school announced an early release for the students starting at 12:30 p.m. and all afterschool activities have been canceled.

"Our students and staff displayed remarkable poise. I am proud of them and remain grateful for their partnership and support. We also are grateful for the rapid and thorough response from Raleigh Police Department and WCPSS Security."

Parents are thankful nobody was injured and the scare is over, but still they expressed being traumatized by the fear of what could have been.

"I'm just glad for all of that, there's no threat any longer. Just give me my baby, so I can just kiss on her, hug her, take her home -- we're going to eat or something," one Enloe parent said outside the school after learning the threat was unfounded.

Another parent told ABC11 she was now going to consider pulling her child out of school to avoid this type of stress.

Police officers plan to remain on campus throughout the day on Friday.

The Raleigh Police Department said in a statement that they take student safety and the threat of weapons on school campuses very seriously. They're working alongside the Wake County Public School System to investigate the incident and ensure students' continued safety.
