Rolling Stones' fans wonder if band will play in Raleigh

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A potential British invasion is the talk of several American cities including Raleigh after The Rolling Stones fan site listed a July 1 stop at Carter-Finley Stadium among an itinerary of rumored tour dates and venues.

"Either like it's a real itinerary and it just hasn't been confirmed, or it's just... it's completely made up," said Brian Shaw, the owner of Nice Price Books and Records on Hillsborough Street.

North Carolina State University officials will not confirm whether the venue is reserved and the Rolling Stones have not made an announcement.

The topic is trending on twitter under #SatisfactionThursday, hinting The Rolling Stones could announce tour specifics this Thursday.

Shaw remembers when the Stones played at Wallace Wade back in 2005 and says it makes the speculations around Finley completely plausible.

"If they played Durham in a football stadium, they can play in Raleigh in a football stadium," he said.

When U2 played Carter-Finley in 2009, it caused traffic problems and ruined parts of the field, but Shaw said it will be worth it for fans and businesses to attract 55,000 concert-goers.

"If you can play football stadiums, you can play football stadiums and that's a lot of money and a lot of people and a lot of draw," said Shaw.
