Savings on books for teachers
When it comes to saving on books, there are a few ways for teachers to stretch their dollar.

According to a study by the National School Supply and Equipment Association, American teachers spent an average of more than $500 of their own money on classroom supplies in the 2013-2014 school year.

When it comes to saving on books, though, there are a few ways for teachers to stretch their dollar.

The Dollar Book Exchange will hold a public sale on Aug. 7, 8, and 9. The store sells all items for one dollar during the sale. There will be bins of children's books that customers can pick from to fill a provided bag for $10.

Owner Diana Graham says she just received 40,000 pounds of children's books. She also has many textbooks leftover from a previous delivery, making her store a great resource for teachers and schools.

"We certainly have lots and lots of teachers that come in as customers and they drive in from far away," said Graham. "We'll work with schools or libraries or tutoring centers or other kinds of groups to put together special purchasing or special pricing for them. We want to get books out, there that's part of what we're about.".

Edward McKay Used Books in Raleigh will also give teachers with a pay stub or school ID a 10 percent discount in the month of August.
