Using Fitbit to save money
There are ways to use your fitness tracker to save money

Fitness tracking devices are hugely popular with millions using wristbands like Fitbit, Jawbone, or MyFitnessPal to name a few.

From counting steps to counting calories, these devices keep track of healthy activity...and retailers are well aware of the popularity, They are allowing users to tie their devices to their apps to rack up rewards and coupons.

"It's a great motivator," explained Matthew Kirkwood with UltimateCoupons.com. "Because you're reaching your fitness goals and you're getting paid to do so."

UltimateCoupons.com found Walgreens, Dick's Sporting Goods, Sears, KMart, and Sports Authority all allow users to earn cash or rewards for merchandise in-store or online.

For example, Walgreens allows users to earn cash rewards with a minimum of 5,000 points and a maximum of 40,000 points or $50 at one time. Points do expire after 3 years or 6 months of inactivity.

"They're trying to incentify you to use their app or shop online or in store to redeem that in conjunction with a purchase," Kirkwood said.
